Doing things differently.
Dan grew up watching his dad make wine for big brands - lots of systems, recipes, and additions. Good wines, sure, but not much nature left in the process.
So in 2012, he started Sigurd - a small family label that honours the vines, the terroir, and the process. The new wave of the Barossa: modern, sustainable, and refreshingly honest.
Minimal Intervention. Maximum Character.
We don’t fine. We don’t filter. We don’t add acidity, sugar, colours or tannins. Everything’s handmade, using gravity where we can. Because we don’t fine or filter, we make sure our wines ferment naturally to zero sugar, so they’re completely dry and stable. No sugar means no chance of re-fermenting in the bottle.
Sustainability Matters.
We work with sustainably farmed, organic and biodynamic vineyards, because healthy vines make better wines. Everything we do aims to tread lighter: vegan wines (well a few wasps didn't make it..), eco-friendly packaging, recyclable materials, everything we can to reduce waste.
We want our kids to enjoy this beautiful planet too!

Sigurd is built on a layered family story, tracing back to Dan’s Great Grandfather, Sigurd Thorwaldsen Gran. They were born 90 years apart on the same day - a small connection that inspired the name and now lives on as Dan’s middle name (and our son's middle name too!).

Dan’s a third-generation vigneron with a career spanning 20+ years and over 40 vintages around the world - Italy, France, Portugal, Canada, New Zealand.
He holds a double degree in Wine Science / Viticulture from Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga). That’s decades of knowledge and craft poured into every bottle of Sigurd.
