2022 Grenache
GRENACHE
Vibrancy and freshness and wild raspberries. This carries onto the palate which makes this a fresh and savoury drop. It keeps opening up over the next few hours into delicate yet powerful wine which will age very well over the next few years. The palate is lean with crunchy acid and soft but focused tannins, enjoys some air in the decanter and will live for some time yet.
Grenache (97%) and Cinsault (3%)
12.9%
Grenache (97%) and Cinsault (3%) from the Moppa subregion in the Northern Barossa, farmed by our friends the Hoffman family with a small amount from the Vine Vale region. The ferment took about 15 days to finish. 15% whole bunch fermented in open stainless-steel tanks with minimal punch downs, treated like a carbonic fermentation and a part fermented in wooden vats with some light punch downs, pressed to hogsheads (300L) of old French oak for 5 months and then blended later to an old 1800L mixed European oak Foudre for 10 months to retain freshness; after the elevage in oak it was racked clean from lees and then bottled. A small amount of sulfur just before bottling.
Style: Medium bodied, dry red wine.
Vineyard: Hoffman Family Vineyards, Moppa, Barossa Valley, SA.
Best with: Charred Spanish style Octopus with green beans/butter and lemon zest.
Drink: Now or keep to 13 years.
